Well, well, well…hello!! It’s been awhile! I have been busy soaking up every second with my little love.  He’s giving me a few moments though while he snoozes so I’m learning to get as much done as possible in a short amount of time. Multi-tasking at its finest!

As you can see, this session wasn’t taken in the past few weeks. It’s actually from the end of summer and meant a lot to me.  Hannah, the oldest, was actually my first photo shoot almost ten years ago.  Her mom was one of my teachers in high school…one of those teachers you idolize…one who makes a difference.  Hannah was only about nine months old at the time and we did the session under an old tree in my parent’s backyard.  I shot the session on film and spent hours making prints and enlargements in my dark room in the basement.  Years later, we met again…this time with her brother and sister in tow (who are also twins)…and how gorgeous are the three of them?

Hannah, Sophie, and Isaac – thank you for such a fun evening.  The three of you are just as gorgeous as your mama.  I can’t wait to get your pretty faces in front of my lens again…

Much Love,

Actions: My own

I have been waiting patiently to share this little gem of a project!  It is the brainchild of  the ever so talented Shannon Sewell and Julie Martin.  When they asked me if I’d be willing to join in, it didn’t take me long to answer.  I love the whole concept of the magazine – a creative sketchbook to inspire.  If anyone were to ask me what my favorite subject to photograph would be, I would definitely say children.  They have the ability to be completely natural in front of the lens…something we tend to lose a bit along the way as adults.  I would gladly spend two hours any day running after little ones, playing tag, telling imaginative stories, twirling, and giggling during a photo session.  I also think it’s so important that, as artists, we constantly push ourselves to be better, to get creative, to break away form the same ole same ole.

A big thank you to Shannon and Julie for being the creative visionaries that they are, for challenging me artistically, and for being dreamers.  I’m so honored to be included amongst a group of so many talented artists.

Make sure you hop on over to Facebook and “Like” the Dreamer fan page.  :)

Here are a few of my favorites from the “Sparkle” shoot. Miss Elle and Miss Liv were all kinds of wonderful…especially since we shot in 42 degree weather!

We had five minutes left in the light of day. Five minutes.  I wasn’t worried. I knew she’d bring it. She always does.  I told her my vision was black and white and grainy and moody and edgy…pretty much how I would shoot all the time if I had my choice.  Five minutes and this is what she gave me and I love every bit of it.   And seriously…how cute are her nose wrinkles?

I have more coming from their family session. After we wrapped, Amber, her two daughters, Aja and Sophie, and Oscars’s mama Stacy and I went out to eat at the cutest little restaurant in Excelsior.  We sipped on hot chocolate, ate entirely too much homemade chicken pot pie, and listened to Aja and Sophie construct quite the stories with their little imaginations.  I love when nights like this come along.  Sometimes it’s not just the photos themselves…it’s the people and the experiences I get to attach to them.  Little bits of my life tucked away in images.  When I think of it that way, I feel pretty lucky.

Tea. Butterflies. Dresses made just for twirling. Princess sightings. …and this gorgeous girl.  How I spent my morning…and pretty perfect it was.

Happy weekend all!

…we were in Target yesterday. Michael stood in the toy aisle for what seemed like forever trying to decide between two new transformer toys.  He kept voicing how he really wanted both of them, but knew we would not cave and so went back and forth and so on and so on.  I never press him to hurry.  I know in his little brain decisions like this are important and I want him to have time to sort it out.  I’m also incredibly indecisive myself so I get it!  He finally settled on Optimus Prime. :)  As he was putting the other toy back, he said, “…but there’s just so many new guys that I want!”  Brady and I laughed, but then really thinking about it I said, “You know what honey? There are things I want too, but I have everything I need.”  And I do.  Michael, being wise beyond his years said, “…because you have me and Daddy and the new baby?”  Precisely so sweet boy….

I have not taken a lot of pictures of Michael lately and owe the grandparents some new pictures so we went out to a corner I fell in love with in our neighborhood.  I love that door and it makes me happy every time I walk past it.  Michael loves it too.  The child also loves his aviator glasses.  I’m pretty sure it’s because Daddy has the matching pair and he pretty much mimics everything Daddy does. Probably why he’s a six year old living inside of a 34 year old body too.  These images make me happy because they are so Michael. He’s sensitive and likes to observe the world, but he’s also incredibly crazy and silly and the happiest boy I know!

We love to love you Mr. Mikey…

Much Love,

Krysta xo
